Dances with Wolves: Part II – The Holy Road!

More than three decades after Dances with Wolves captured audiences with its sweeping visuals and powerful tale of cultural understanding, the story continues in The Holy Road. Based on Michael Blake’s sequel novel, this follow-up returns us to the Lakota Plains, decades after John Dunbar’s (Dances with Wolves) fateful choice to live among the Sioux.
Plot & Setting
The film takes place during a turbulent period when expansion, railroads, and government policies threaten the survival of Native tribes. The “holy road” refers to the railroad, cutting across the sacred lands of the Plains. Dunbar, now deeply embedded in Lakota life with Stands With A Fist and their children, is forced to confront the relentless push of American settlers and the devastating cultural shifts that follow.
This isn’t just about survival of land—it’s about survival of identity. The Lakota struggle to preserve their traditions as the outside world closes in, and Dunbar must once again choose between two worlds, knowing that neutrality is no longer possible.
