Years after the fall of Barsoom’s tyrants, John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) has found peace as a Warlord of Mars. But that peace shatters when a forgotten race of conquerors returns, wielding ancient technology powerful enough to enslave the planet. Carter, torn between his ties to Earth and Mars, must once again take up arms to defend the people he now calls his own.
Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins) leads as both queen and warrior, determined to protect her kingdom. Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) returns with loyalty and dry humor, while Mahershala Ali terrifies as the invaders’ leader, a strategist with motives far beyond conquest.
The film expands the world of Barsoom with grand aerial battles, colossal beasts unleashed in gladiatorial arenas, and deserts hiding ruins of lost civilizations. At its core, though, it is about Carter’s identity: a man from Earth fighting for a world that may never fully accept him.
The climax erupts in the Valley of the Nine Suns, where Carter rallies Martians of every tribe to resist the invaders. The battle is massive, but victory comes at sacrifice, leaving Carter to question his destiny as both alien and savior.
