If Disney makes one key change to the release strategy of Prey 2, it could easily break a long-standing Predator franchise record that has remained untouched for two decades. The first Prey film reinvigorated the Predator universe by setting its narrative in the Northern Great Plains of 1719. The story follows a young Comanche woman, Naru, who embarks on a hunting rite of passage in the wilderness, only to encounter a ruthless extraterrestrial hunter. Prey was widely celebrated as the best Predator film since the iconic 1987 original.

After the critical and audience success of Prey, it’s only a matter of time before Disney launches Prey 2. Whether it continues Naru’s journey or introduces a new protagonist facing off against a Predator in a different time and setting, Prey 2 is a highly anticipated addition to the sci-fi action genre. However, for the sequel to surpass a major Predator franchise record, Disney will need to make a pivotal adjustment to its release plan.
