The Meg (2018)

The Meg (2018)
The Meg is a 2018 science fiction action film directed by Jon Turteltaub, loosely based on the 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten. The film stars Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao, and Cliff Curtis. The plot follows a group of scientists who encounter a 75-foot-long megalodon while on a rescue mission in the Pacific Ocean.
Jonathan Taylor, a rescue diver, is forced to flee and leave two crew members trapped in the sub. His story is dismissed by fellow survivor Dr. Heller, who denounces his actions as psychotic. Five years later, billionaire Jack Morris meets Dr. Minway Zhang at Mana One, where they are tasked with exploring a deeper section of the Mariana Trench. The submersible is attacked and trapped by a large creature.

Zhang and Jonas’ old friend James “Mac” Mackreides, the operations manager of Mana One, recruit Jonas from Thailand. Suyin tries to rescue the crew but is attacked by a giant squid and killed by an enormous shark. Jonas saves the crew, and Toshi sacrifices himself to the shark. The Mana One crew discovers that the giant shark is a Megalodon or “Meg,” a prehistoric species of shark previously believed to be extinct.
They decide to kill the Meg, knowing modern humans are unequipped to deal with such an ancient creature. After marking the Meg with a tracker, Suyin enters a shark-proof tank to shoot it with poison, which successfully kills the creature. A second, larger Meg emerges, devouring The Wall and the dead Meg, critically wounding Dr. Minway Zhang. Dr. Minway Zhang dies on the way to rescue.
Morris claims to have informed neighboring governments about the Meg and sent destroyers to torpedo it, but a mercenary team fails and Morris is eaten by the Meg. The Mana One crew decides to kill the Meg themselves. The Meg attacks a crowded beach in Sanya Bay, China, and Jonas wounds it with his submersible, crippling it.
