GRANGER (2025)

GRANGER is an action-packed thriller set in a world where technology and espionage collide, bringing audiences on a high-octane ride full of twists and turns. Directed by James McTeigue, known for his sharp, fast-paced direction in V for Vendetta and The Raven, GRANGER promises a gripping narrative but stumbles in its execution.
The film follows Granger (played by Scott Eastwood), a former intelligence officer who is pulled back into the world of covert operations after a mysterious organization begins targeting global leaders. When a high-profile government official is assassinated in a covert attack, Granger is tasked with uncovering the perpetrators before a larger crisis unfolds.
The plot centers on Granger’s personal journey to not only expose the conspiracy but also confront his own past decisions that led him into a morally gray world of espionage. As the line between right and wrong blurs, Granger must navigate both external threats and his own inner demons.
Strengths:
The movie excels in its action sequences, delivering explosive set pieces with impressive choreography and impressive visual effects. From rooftop chases to hand-to-hand combat in dark alleyways, the action is relentless and delivers the thrills that action fans crave. Scott Eastwood’s performance is solid, with a brooding intensity that gives Granger depth, but it’s clear that the character lacks the emotional complexity that might have made him truly compelling.
Weaknesses:
While the action is top-notch, the story feels somewhat formulaic, with its predictable plot beats and lack of fresh twists. The script leaves a lot to be desired, with character motivations often feeling shallow and dialogue occasionally feeling forced. The film tries to explore complex themes of betrayal, loyalty, and redemption, but these elements often feel overshadowed by the constant rush of action and lack of deeper exploration of the characters’ emotional arcs
The pacing also suffers in the middle act, as the film transitions from one explosive sequence to another without taking enough time to develop the characters or plot in a meaningful way. Some viewers may find themselves disengaged during these slower moments, waiting for the next action scene to ignite the screen again.
